Paris CDG Terminal 1 reopens

Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport has reopened its Terminal 1 after almost three years of closure, gearing up for the Paris Olympics in 2024. The renovations saw the creation of a 36,000 sqm junction building as well as new features within the central lobby to improve the passenger experience.

The new junction building links satellites 1, 2 and 3 and connects to the central building at Terminal 1. This includes a new 5,600 sqm boarding hall facing the central body.

The airport says that there will be a maximum travel time of six minutes from the end of security checks to the boarding gate.

IATA and Travalyst team up to help consumers calculate their carbon footprint

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and Travalyst, have joined forces with the aim of providing consumers with a consistent, accurate and widely available calculation of their carbon footprint from air travel.

As all sectors of the aviation and travel industries come together in pursuit of net zero CO2 goals, this new and major collaboration effort will bring even greater transparency, accuracy and consistency to how a traveller’s carbon footprint is calculated.

Don’t show a passport to Malaga

British Airways (BA) is trialling biometric technology for international flights becoming the first UK airline to do so. The technology enables customers to travel through the airport ‘smartly’ without showing their passports.

Customers to Malaga (AGP) from Heathrow Terminal 5 who sign up to take part in the airline’s trial, will be asked to scan their face, passport and boarding pass on their smartphone or tablet ahead of travel. When trial participants arrive at the airport, Smart Bio-Pod cameras will verify their identity in under three seconds, allowing them to keep their passports in their pockets until they reach their destination.

The trial will run for six months and, if successful, will be extended to more international flights.
